Banquet Manager

Job Purpose:

To hire, train, and direct the banquet and facilities staff in servicing all banquet activities in order to ensure a successful function and repeat business. (Supervises Banquet Captains, Servers, Bartenders and Banquet houseperson). The Banquet Manager is responsible for managing all banquets and events in the hotel to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience while optimizing sales, evaluating performance, and ensuring staffing levels meet demand.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the hiring, scheduling, and training of the department banquet and public facilities staff to include conducting roll call and monthly meetings, and illustrating the proper techniques in setting-up meeting rooms and servicing functions. Monitor staff performance. Define performance requirements and develop action plans for achievement of goals. Use a computer to accurately charge customers, complete weekly payroll, process all purchase orders.

  • Supervise the set-up of function rooms to include placement of all furniture and equipment according to event order specifications. Visually inspect function rooms and equipment prior to functions for cleanliness, proper inventory, make out work orders thru synergy program and set up.

  • Verbally communicate, in a calm, positive demeanor, during the course of the function with the kitchen, service, beverage, convention services, and engineering staffs, as well as the guest host to ensure timely execution of events, quality service, and adherence to all applicable federal, state, local safety and health regulations and corporate standards.

  • Illustrating the proper techniques and etiquette, and buffet style and parade types of service.

  • Supervise clean-up of function room and proper breakdown and storage of equipment.

  • Check staff attendance according to schedules, adjust and reassign server stations, as necessary, in order to provide quality service during functions.

  • Maintains all public spaces in the banquet and conference center areas including supervising the cleaning and maintenance of all meeting rooms and service corridors.

  • Assists with meal service and breakdown as needed. Assists in getting banquet guest checks signed and turned in to the front office for proper posting, if needed.

  • Displays good customer relation skills.

  • Takes initiative to greet guests in a friendly manner.

  • Freshens all meeting rooms during meal breaks by replacing ashtrays, changing cloths if necessary, refilling candy jars, replacing water glasses, refilling water pitchers, and removing garbage from meeting areas and break tables.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the banquets operations including food, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques, and guest interaction.

  • Thorough knowledge of the outlets operations including food, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques, and guest interaction.

  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, to collect accurate information, and to resolve problems.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

  • Ability to continuously perform essential job functions on a variety of shifts, for extended periods of time.

  • Considerable skill in math and algebraic equations using percentages are necessary to assist in monthly forecasts and completion of daily banquet checks.

  • Ability to listen, and communicate effectively.

  • Read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate in Spanish helpful.

  • Ability to access and accurately input information using applicable computer systems.

  • Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform essential job functions.

  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.

  • Ability to push/pull cart/ table weighing up to 150 lbs.;

  • Ability to grasp, lift to waist and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of inventories, scheduling, and productivity.

  • Ability to effectively manage time.

  • Visual ability to observe Team Members in the work place, analyze operations and detect situations of concern with regard to areas such as employee performance, grooming, training, policy adherence and morale.

Qualifications Standards

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Minimum of 2-year college degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 4 years experience in Food & Beverage required.

Minimum of 2 years experience as a banquets manager preferred.

License/Certificates:

Food Handlers Certification required.

TABC required.

CPR certification preferred.
